On 1st October 2016, the UK Home Office introduced a new service for EEA and Swiss nationals applying for either a registration certificate or permanent residence in the UK.
Applicants can apply through their participating local authority where a copy of the passport is sent to the Home Office along with the application, allowing them to continue to use their passport while the application is being processed.
Alternatively, applicants can make an appointment, taking along their passport and documents to the premium service centre in Belfast or Glasgow, within 5 working days of submitting the online form. The service fee can be obtained by contacting the local authority who will also be able to confirm local appointment times available.
The local authority cannot offer advice, nor does the service guarantee the success of the application.
